Although the spring/ summer 2014 season is upon us, we’re already much engrossed in fall fashions here at JLD-Studios. I’ve decided to dedicate this trend report to dresses for fall 2014. Here are just a few of our favorites here at the studio. Embellished Dresses: Does your customer want to stand out in the crowd? Than this is an important trend to pay attention to. Lace, jewel-embellishments and interesting textures are just a few ways designers are creating these unique dresses. Christopher Kane, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana all showed these incredibly ornate dresses during their fall shows.

Tight-knit Dresses: Knits will be big for the fall season, even for dresses. This look is cozy and will keep you warm during the colder months. Calvin Klein, Public School and Edun all had voluminous knit dresses included in their collection. These knit dresses look great with tights and ankle booties, and are the perfect mix of cozy and cute, reminiscent of sitting next to a fire drinking hot chocolate. This is a trend we expect to continue well into the winter months!

Lady-like Dresses: For all of you that are tired of crop tops, or skin-baring cutouts, this look is for you. Designers like Burberry Prorsum or Rebecca Taylor have been showing lacy skirts and dresses that have a bit longer hemline than we have been seeing lately. These looks are ultra-feminine and romantic, and are great for if your customer is looking for office-appropriate looks.

Emerald: A slight carry-over from 2013, emerald is one of the unofficial colors of fall, and designers such as Jason Wu, Opening Ceremony and Narciso Rodriguez are among many of the designers embracing this color for fall, and we can understand why.  This color is flattering on most people and can be worn during the day, and dresses up nicely at night.

Sports-Inspired Dresses: With ath-leisure making a big play for your customers dollars, this is the next evolution.  Upscale designers like Tom Ford, Alexander Wang and Miu Miu are capitalizing on this look and translating a baseball tee or football jersey into a luxurious-yet sporty look. Reminds me of what “Sporty Spice” would have worn to the Grammy’s.

60’s inspired Dresses: If your customer enjoys dabbling in retro trends, than this look is for you! The 60’s are back with great dresses that will bring out the flower child in all of us. Gucci, House of Holland and Saint Laurent are just a few designers participating in this groovy trend. If you also manufacture accessories, knee-high boots and headbands will help to embrace the 60’s look full-on.

Voluminous Dresses: Volume is a huge trend for fall 2014, and it is a departure from body-con dresses that were so popular last season. Prabal Gurung, Zimmerman and Oscar de la Renta all included this voluminous look in their collections. If you find a fabric you love, buy the whole roll! This trend is going to take a lot of yardage to pull off!

This isn’t an all-inclusive list of fall 2014 trends, but just a few of our favorites. Be sure to keep checking our blog for more trend forecasting and insider fashion knowledge!
