Last month at the LA Textile Show we highlighted our sublimation printing services. One of our biggest takeaways, other than amazing new contacts, was that polyester fabric still has a bad rap. We aim to change that with more education on today’s polyester. This is not the fiber your parents, or grandparents wore. Polyester has come a long way in the last 50 odd years.
Wicking in Polyester
I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but for those needing a refresher. Wicking, in fabrics, is the act of moisture being pulled through the fiber of your leggings to the surface of the fabric where it can more quickly evaporate. Kind of handy during intense workouts.
While this can be achieved through fabric treatments, polyester has natural wicking abilities. Since it only absorbs a fraction of the water other materials do, like cotton, it can quickly disperse sweat and dry fast.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. We like to utilize this mantra we learned in grade school and so do some of our favorite fabric vendors. Polyester has a lot of recycled options available in legging fabrics. One resource, Repreve, is saving water bottles from landfills by the billions.
Printing on Polyester
We may only be able to print on polyester fabric, so you could call us bias, but there is a reason we selected this printing method. Sublimation printing has fantastic color quality result allowing full color images to be crested with screen separation and charges. Aside from the amazing results and quality, it’s also done with water based inks.
So next time you hear about polyester fabric options, don’t wrinkle your nose. Instead feel the fabric, then order some sample yardage and take it for a spin. We think you’ll be happy with the results.
